Across the African continent today, we partner with development and commercial leaders to co-create and grow inclusive markets that cater for the underserved.

As a strategic advisory firm, our biggest impact comes from the advice and solutions that we supply to our clients. We work with them to drive investment that addresses national development priorities.

Our impact labs

Impact has guided Africa Practice from day one. More recently, we’ve sought to ensure the way we define and deliver impact is inclusive. By embedding impact intentionally at every level of the organisation – starting at the Board level – we ensure alignment and coherence in all strategic and operational decision-making. It guides our choices about the clients and the mandates we take on and how we operate as a business.

Last year, we established three Impact Labs to enable everyone in the business to contribute to shaping the impact we seek to create. The labs are a series of voluntary working groups composed of colleagues across practice areas, geographies and seniority, who co-create practical, actionable recommendations and policies for our identified material topics. Over 80% of the labs’ first set of recommendations were approved by our leadership team for implementation. This is how we deliver our formal commitments to the UN Global Compact and create a culture where everyone can actively contribute to our purpose.

The Community Lab explores our impact on society and identifies opportunities for AP to contribute to broader societal shifts. Our initial focus themes include extending our code of conduct policies to our value chain, building social impact metrics and stakeholder engagement into our risk assessments and economic impact modeling, developing advocacy on priority issues and designing our philanthropic strategy.

The Environment Lab brings together colleagues to collaborate on evolving our approach to complex environmental challenges including climate change, energy transition and the protection of nature. We’re actively developing tools and policies to embed impact both in our internal processes and how we work with clients.

The Wellbeing Lab enables our staff to contribute to improving the employee experience and puts wellbeing and inclusion at the heart of our talent agenda. We focus on emotional and psychological wellbeing, work-life balance and healthy lifestyles and our recommendations inform the design and development of policies and programmes implemented by the business. The Lab is a valuable forum for employees to share their ideas and feedback to ensure we are building an inclusive and supportive growth culture.
